Elizabeth Hellmich - Chair

I am Elizabeth Hellmich I have lived in Bradford and particularly in Heaton all my life, I have a long suffering husband who supports me in everything I do, 2 daughter and 2 wonderful grandsons who are regular visitors to the Centre. I have been associated with the Millan Centre for about 10 years when I joined the Management Committee at the request of Zahida Laher who was Centre Manger at the time. I came along with one of my foster children so she could join the Girls Group, I thought the atmosphere in the centre was fun, friendly and welcoming and I have been on the Management Committee ever since, I now serve as the Chairperson with an excellent Committee who work very hard and conscientiously to ensure that Centre is always doing its best for everyone.

Joanna Allan - Treasurer

I've lived in the local area for 30+ years and many years ago was asked to join management committee as the treasurer as maths is my background.

Making sure that everyone is able to make the most of their abilities in an environment where they feel comfortable seems to me to be the essence of the Millan Centre.

Everyone who has worked here and all those make use of its facilities have made Millan a lively and hopeful centre.

It's one of the hubs of the area and a good place to get to know people too.

Mollie Somerville - Company Secretary

I've been a member of the management committee at the Millan Centre for many years and have been Chair, minutes secretary and on all the different sub-committees over the years. At the moment I'm company secretary which means I have to make sure that we comply with all the rules and regulations about being a company and a charity.

I am committed to the role that Millan Centre has played, and continues to play, in encouraging women to improve their quality of life.

Isabel Arnold

I have been on the Management Committee for a few years now and in the last 3 years I have been the Minutes Secretary, which means I write a record of the meetings and the decisions we make.

I have taught English at the Millan Centre on and off for many years; now having retired I am a volunteer tutor, also I help in the kitchen at the Over 50's Group. I like learning how to make different spicy dishes!

 Our History

Millan Centre is a purpose built centre in the heart of the Manningham community. It was established in 1988 by a group of adult education tutors working with local women. The women identified a need for an easily accessed welcoming centre with good childcare where they could socialise and learn English within an easy distance of homes. Acceptability to women and their families was essential.

The centre is independent and the only area provision specifically for women and girls. All project work is carried out through funds obtained from grant making bodies or through partnerships.
